School Program Hosts African American Read-In

In honor of Black History Month, the School Age Enrichment Program will host and participate in the 2nd Annual African American Read-In by joining over a million readers for this national event. The Read-In is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Black Caucus and is endorsed by the International Reader's Association. The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month.

As we participate in this important event, we cordially invite all of our LBCC family (children, parents, staff, friends, and legislators) to be present and/or be a "sharer".
There will also be a special presentation by Verizon which will aid in our quest to improve and support literacy at LBCC.

WHEN: Wednesday, February 16th, 2011, 6-8pm

WHERE: Theodore D. Young Community Center

For more information, please contact Tanya Johnson, School Age/Special Programs Coordinator at (914) 761-6134 or tjohnson@lbcc4kids.org. Co-sponsored by the TDYCC.

The majority of the children LBCC serves comes from low income families. Thanks to concerned partners, we are able to extend our educational services to many families by providing tuition assistance that total over $300,000 each year. Our annual gala has become our most important fundraiser and our primary vehicle for raising financial aid.

The success of our benefit depends on the support of partners like you. Here's how you can help:
